Towards the end of the last century, Jean Janouiex decided to get involved in the wine trade. He became a négociant in Meymac near Bordeaux. He started by looking for business in Brittany, a difficult market, but because of the quality of the products he represented, he built up a faithful clientele. Later he invited his four sons and his son-in-law to join him in developing the business. His son Joseph, while closely following his father's commercial philosophy, quickly realized that you were in a better position to sell your product if you owned it. In 1930, he realized his dream and purchased Château Haut Sarpe, a Grand Cru Classé of St-Emilion.<br> Today the house of Joseph Janouiex is an important enterprise in the Libourne both as a wine merchant and as a quality wine producer. With four châteaux in the St-Emilion appellation: Château Haut Sarpe, Château Vieux Sarpe, Château Le Castelot and Château Haut Badette and three others in the commune of Pomerol: Château La Croix Toulifaut, Château La Croix St-Georges and Château La Croix, the family's wines enjoy a fine reputation. They are served in the finest restaurants of Paris, like La Tour d'Argent, Le Crillon and the Ritz. After 60 years in business, the inspiration for the house of Joseph Janouiex is still a permanent desire for quality and the respect of their worldwide customers.
