Heggies Vineyard

Heggies Vineyard was purchased in 1971 by Wyndham Hill Smith from his great friend, Colin Heggie. The distinctive label portrays Colin Heggie on his horse, at sunset, looking over the first plantings in the fledging vineyard. Initially prime grazing land, of 300 acres, the vineyard was established in 1973 and today, plantings total 150 acres (60 hectares). Good soil, high altitude and 787 millimeters of annual rain together with innovative viticultural practices produce wines of full flavour and balance. The main grape varieties planted are Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Viognier.
